SGBV can be physical, sexual, emotional, financial or structural, and can be perpetrated by intimate partners, acquaintances, strangers or institutions. 

At AWA we work around strengthening GBV prevention and response; exploring mechanisms that include male engagement in the fight to end violence against women and girls. Prevention initiatives look at how GBV can be prevented from happening. Response services aim to support and help survivors of violence in a variety of ways. AWA SGBV Prevention initiatives look at how GBV can be prevented from happening. We focus on:

  • Intimate partner violence (IPV)

  • Sexual violence (Sexual assault, Sexual exploitation)

  • Sexual Harassment (public spaces, work place)

  • Date rape

  • Incest

  • Statutory rape

  • Teen dating abuse

  • Child marriage

  • Emotional & Psychological violence

  • Body shaming

  • Cyber bullying

  • Revenge porn
